I had never experienced physical therapy before, but my sister has done it several times, and she calls it "pain and torture."  My experience, although not recent injury related, was the exact opposite.  Katie Segner, who guided me through pelvic floor therapy, was always professional and knowledgeable, yet compassionate and kind.  She had a sense of humor putting me at ease right away, and always treated me with dignity and respect.  She patiently explained everything, answered all of my questions, mapped out next steps, and repeated instructions.

The results for me were life changing.  My condition has been reversed enough that I am so much more comfortable.  I am getting stronger, but the most important thing is my emotional wellbeing.  I have confidence and control back.  I didn't realize that I was mildly depressed about the situation and that is gone.  My time is more free, my focus is not on locating a bathroom everywhere I go.  I don't need one, always!  The information and techniques Katie taught me helped me to understand the importance of better self care.  I have told numerous family and friends about pelvic floor therapy and have encouraged them to seek help for themselves.  I wish it were universally available to young and old women.

I can't say enough good things about Katie and pelvic floor therapy.  Thank you!

My background and vision

My story

My name is Katie Segner and my most cherished role is mama to my beautiful daughters Kirbie (age 3) and Kinlee (11 months old).

Professionally, I am a Licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy who specializes in Women's health and I am also a Certified Pilates instructor through Balanced Body. My LLC, Mama to the core, is founded by my passion to inspire mindful movement among prenatal (and aspiring mamas), postpartum women and fitness junkies.

My goal is to empower women to engage in safe exercise, improve mental and physical wellness and educate clients on how to maintain and restore their core to prevent injury to their spine and pelvic floor and minimize risk for musculoskeletal dysfunction to promote optimal fitness.

Where did I start

I graduated from Texas A&M University in 2013, double majoring in Animal Science and Kinesiology. In 2016, I graduated with my Clinical Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from University of Wisconsin-Madison.

I have been practicing in a hospital-based outpatient, multidisciplinary rehab clinic for the past six and half years, treating primarily patients with neurological related diagnoses up until four years ago when I developed my passion for treating women's health patients.

Although I still treat many neurological and orthopedic conditions, I now hone in my clinical skills to target prenatal and postpartum related conditions, specifically treating urinary incontinence and pelvic girdle related musculoskeletal diagnoses.

I became certified as a mat based Pilates instructor in September of 2020 to enhance my treatment skills for spine and pelvic related conditions. Thus, I blended my role as a mama, passion for women's health, and background as a PT and Pilates instructor to found "Mama to the core," to serve my clients via education and instruction of mindful based movement to promote optimal fitness and wellness.
